These numbers are typed in. Trace your pond once and every calculator uses its measured volume and depths.

Stocking check
Add at least one fish below to check the stocking.

Fish

Measure each fish from the nose to the base of the tail.

How it works

These limits are for planning. They don't account for filtration, how much ammonia the fish produce, or how much oxygen is left if the pump fails. Test the water and check the fish are healthy before you add more.

area capacity used = Σ (count × length × D) : binds if this exceeds your surface area volume capacity used = Σ (count × length × G) : binds if this exceeds your gallons D = 0.5 sq ft/in for all pond fish G = 10 gal/in for all pond fish

Each fish takes up an allowance based on its type and length. The result adds those allowances up and compares the total with the pond’s area and volume. Adult lengths are estimates that vary with genetics and conditions, and for some species we don’t know how fast they grow.

Want the precise number?

Type your measurements in above for a quick estimate. For the real volume, trace your pond on a photo or satellite image and set its depths. PondTools measures the actual outline, so dosing, liner and pump sizes come out right.
