How it works

Use the average depth across the shelves and the deeper parts. Check the water volume before you dose salt or medication.

gallons = length (ft) × width (ft) × average depth (ft) × 7.48 × shape factor shape factor = 1 rectangular · 0.785 circular or oval · 0.85 irregular

Measure the length and width across the water, at right angles to each other. For the average depth, take readings all over the pond, including on the shelves. The irregular shape factor is an approximation, and a traced outline accounts for the actual shape.

Want the precise number?

Type your measurements in above for a quick estimate. For the real volume, trace your pond on a photo or satellite image and set its depths. PondTools measures the actual outline, so dosing, liner and pump sizes come out right.
